KOLKATA, FEB. 4. A businessman's daughter was abducted today in broad daylight from the Salt Lake area near here. Four armed men dragged Roma (20), daughter of Satyanarayan Jhawar of Salt Lake's CB Block, out of her car and whisked her away in a van this morning. Like any other day, at 8.20 a.m., Roma, a third-year student of G. D. Birla College, picked up her friend, Sraboni Mitra, from her house and headed towards Kolkata. She had her three-year-old brother with her. At the traffic island at CA Block, a van blocked the car. Four young men got down from the van and took her away at gunpoint. It is believed that within an hour, the kidnappers used Roma's mobile phone to demand a ransom of Rs. 50 lakhs. The police were, however, tight-lipped about such a demand. The Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattachrjee, said a probe was being conducted into the incident. Police stations in and around Kolkata have been alerted. The police have questioned Sraboni and Roma's driver,Sukumar Mondal.
