ANANTAPUR, FEB. 4. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday took over the murder case of Paritala Ravindra here. A 12-member investigation team was led Viswanathan, DIG. On its arrival in the morning, the team went straight to the District Police Office and had a meeting with the Superintendent of Police, R.S. Praveen Kumar, for about two hours. They also met the DIG, Anantapur range, N. Jayarami Reddy, later. When contacted, Mr. Praveen Kumar told The Hindu that on the official requisition from the CBI he had handed over the case file to the team, including the First Information Report (FIR) registered by the Two Town police station here on the day of the murder along with the complaint lodged by the maternal uncle of the deceased.
Records handed over
The SP also explained how Paritala was murdered and the progress made in the investigation so far. All records pertaining to the investigation carried out by the district police and the CID were handed over to the team, the SP said. He said the CBI would treat the case file handed over to it, consisting the progress made into the investigation as the evidence. After studying the case file, the CBI would register a fresh FIR and take up the investigation afresh. All the six surrendered accused in the case, who were also arrested, would be taken into their custody by seeking permission from the court concerned as and when required by the CBI, he said.
Accommodation
The team members were allotted accommodation for their stay as well as for office in the officers' quarters by the administration. The CBI team had also examined the weapons recovered from the surrendered. Asked about the fate of district police teams which were in the field in the quest of the alleged main shooter, Julakanti Srinivasa Reddy alias Vijay, and the other accused in the case, Mr. Praveen Kumar said they would continue their manhunt. He said their role would be limited to providing logistic support to the CBI.
