EFY awards on Feb. 10

NEW DELHI FEB. 4. The Second Annual EFY Readers' Choice Awards for Excellence in Electronics will be given away at India Habitat Centre here on February 10. The nominees for these awards are selected by persons who are icons in their respective fields.

There will be 30 awards in all. Of these, 27 will be readers' choice awards for various electronics products, including some components. Three special category awards will be for Electronics Organisation of the Year; Electronics Man of the Year; and Lifetime Achievement Award.

Last year the Electronics Organisation of the Year award went to Reliance InfoComm, and B.S Sethia, Director, ELIN Electronics, won the Electronics Man of the Year Award. The Lifetime Achievement award went to A.N. Ahuja, Founder and President, Ahuja Radios.

The awards are presented on the basis of performance of companies in respective categories. The entire exercise of selecting the nominees and winners was done with the help and guidance of IMRB, the renowned market research company.

Map India 2005

NEW DELHI FEB. 4. A three-day international conference and exhibition on mapping technologies, geographic information systems (GIS), global positioning system (GPS), aerial photography and remote sensing titled "Map India 2005'' will begin in the Capital this coming Monday.

More than 1,200 academicians, information technology and management experts are expected to attend the two-day geographic information technology conference which is being jointly organised by the Survey of India and Centre for Spatial Database Management and Solutions (CSDMS).

The delegates from across the world will discuss the latest uses of mapping technology in the field of disaster management, defence, industrial planning, urban development, telecom, police, power, mining and tourism management.

The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, along with the Union Environment Minister, Kapil Sibal, will inaugurate the exhibition.

Stamp on Singhania

NEW DELHI FEB. 4. Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat released a postage stamp in honour of the doyen of JK Organisation, the late Padampat Singhania, here on Thursday.

Also present on the occasion were the Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Shakeel Ahmad; the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Prakash Jaiswal; the President of JK Organisation, Hari Shankar Singhania; and the Director of JK Organisation, Govind Hari Singhania.

Mr. Singhania not only promoted industry and trade but contributed to every sphere of life like education, health care, sports, religious activities and welfare of the citizens. The stamp is priced at Rs 5 and the first day cover along with the information sheet is available at all philatelic bureaus and counters and at selected post offices.

IGNOU entrance test

NEW DELHI FEB. 4. The all-India entrance test for management programmes of Indira Gandhi National Open University will be held at various centres throughout the country this coming Sunday.

The management programmes offered by the university include Master of Business Administration, Post-graduate Diploma in Management, Post-graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, Post-graduate Diploma in Financial Management, Post-graduate Diploma in Operation Management, Post-graduate Diploma in Marketing Management and Diploma in Management.

The admit cards for the examination have already been sent to the students.

Gayathri competition

NEW DELHI FEB. 4. The 15th annual Thyagaraja kritis competition was conducted by Gayathri Fine Arts at Gayathri Apartments in Rohini here this past week-end.

Two young college students, Shweta Balan and Rashmi Ramesh, were declared winners of the GFA Kamala Kannan Memorial Award-2005 for excellence in singing Thyagaraja kritis.

R. Vignesh and A. Ramakrishnan (7-10 years), T. S. Shriram (10-13 years), K. Srikant (13-15 years), V. Shankar Raman (16-18 years) and N. Sriram (19-25 years) were declared first prize winners in mridangam-playing.

A total of 70 competitors were in the fray.

Meanwhile, Gayathri Fine Arts has scheduled "Thyagaraja Aaradhana-2005" this month beginning February 6 with Anjali. The festival will end with the saint-composer's Pancharatnam chorus on February 13.
