NEW DELHI, FEB. 4. A dip in generation in hydropower plants due to a poor monsoon and subsequent shortfall in supply of power to the Northern Gird has resulted in Delhi experiencing a powerless winter this year. Consequently, since last December end, the Capital has been experiencing an average daily loadshedding of at least 250-300 MW. On Friday too, a loadshedding of 339 MW was done in the Capital, which was 43 MW more compared to Thursday. The peak demand stood at 3,070 MW, while the same figure for Thursday was 3,009 MW. While Delhi's three power generating units -- one 30 MW unit of Gas Turbine power plant and two units of 62.5 MW each of the Indraprastha power plant -- continued to remain shut today, the Northern Grid was also plagued by low frequency. Significantly, Delhi-based Northern Region Load Dispatch Centre has been monitoring the situation round-the-clock to ensure that there was no overdrawal of power from the Northern Grid, failure of which could result in the tripping of the entire Grid plunging the entire northern region into darkness. The areas that remained affected on Friday included Mangolpuri, Karawal Nagar, Jehangirpuri, Najafgarh, Sangam Vihar, Ambedkarnagar, Sultanpuri, Ashok Vihar, Nangloi, Narela, Seelampur, Shakarpur, Bindapur, Uttam Nagar, Jafarpur, Okhla, Dwarkapuri, Shahdara, Pappan Kalan, Bijwasan, Tughlakhabad, Jamia, Ghonda, Nandnagri, Palam, Mahipalpur, Kalkaji, Okhla and Dilshad Garden.
