Panchayat polls to cost Govt. Rs. 24 crores

BANGALORE,
FEB. 5.
The holding of the gram panchayat elections will cost the exchequer Rs. 24 crores, the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, informed the Legislative Council today.
He was speaking on the Karnataka Appropriation Bill, 2005, authorising payment out of the Consolidated Fund of the State for services for 2004-05, which was passed by the House after a brief discussion. The Legislative Assembly passed the Bill on Friday.
Presenting the Bill, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that of Rs. 938.73 crores included in the supplementary estimates, Rs. 72.64 crores is covered by Central assistance, Rs. 60.7 crores by receipts. Giving details of the financial allocation for each area of development, he assured the House that the Government is committed to social justice and overall development of the State.
