Legal aid centre inaugurated

NEW DELHI FEB. 5. The Delhi High Court Judge and Executive Chairman of Delhi Legal Services Authority, B.A. Khan, inaugurated a free Legal Aid Centre at the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University here on Saturday. The legal aid centre will help the poor and needy people to get justice by providing free legal assistance. It will also have a children and family counselling centre which will give guidance on treatment of children.

Equipment donated

NEW DELHI FEB. 5 . The ICS and IAS Officers' Wives Association on Friday donated occupational and physiotherapy equipment for the students of `Aanchal', a school for mentally disabled students. The school is run by the New Delhi Municipal Council.

The President of the Association, Vibha Chaturvedi, assured all help from the organisation for the welfare of disabled children. She also felicitated the students for their performances in various co-curricular activities. The students presented a cultural programme on the occasion. The function was attended by the officials of the civic body and office-bearers of the association.

Russian team meets President

NEW DELHI FEB. 5. Several Russian group leaders met the President, A. P.J. Abdul Kalam, on Thursday to apprise him about the conclusions of the four-day Delhi chapter's "Second International Congress of Mother on Women and Family Values'' which was organised by the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Institution.

About 200 delegates from Russia and adjoining countries participated in the event. Addressing the delegates, Dr Kalam said righteous actions at individual level would restore harmony in family and also among nations and would bring peace in world.

School building opened

NEW DELHI FEB. 5. A newly- constructed municipal primary school building was inaugurated by the Member of Parliament, Sajjan Kumar, at Ambedkar Nagar here on Saturday. The Delhi Mayor, A.R. Verma, was the chief guest at the function.

The building has 19 classrooms and has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 80 lakhs.

Stress on rainwater harvesting

NEW DELHI FEB. 5. To create mass awareness on water conservation and rainwater harvesting, a function was organised by the non-government organisation, DCVS, and the Delhi-unit of Coca-Cola in the Capital today.

The Delhi Minister of Finance, A.K. Walia, and the East Delhi MP, Sandeep Dikshit, were the chief guest on the occasion. Both of them stressed the fact that with the declining water table, rainwater harvesting and water conservation were the only alternatives towards a better future. The DCVS along the Central Ground Water Board and the Ministry of Water Resources were also engaged in the programme to observe "Rainwater Harvesting Week'' in which more than 25 social workers received training in rainwater harvesting techniques.
