By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, FEB. 5. A Delhi court today sentenced six persons of the infamous "Kaccha-Baniyan'' gang to life imprisonment for killing a man while committing dacoity at his residence in Narela in North-West Delhi four years ago.

Sentencing the six, Ratan Singh, Pyarelal, Abhimanyu, Suraj Bhan, and two accused bearing the same Jagdish-- the Additional Sessions Judge, O.P. Saini, said: "The prosecution has been able to prove the case beyond all reasonable doubts.

The Narela police charged the convicts with breaking into the house of the victim Maharishi Bhardwaj, looting cash, jewellery and valuables and killing Bhardwaj when he tried to resist them.

However, Bhardwaj's mother and his manager remained unhurt in the attack by the dacoits, the prosecution said. Two of the accused-- Ratan Singh and Pyarelal-- had confessed to the crime during interrogation. Later, the mother of the victim identified all the accused persons at the time of recording of her evidence in the court.

There were a total of 12 accused in the case. Six of them have been declared absconders by the court. Of the six sentenced, four are at present serving life imprisonment in a Haryana jail in different cases registered and tried by the court there.
