The Mayor, Teegala Krishna Reddy, acknowledging members at the general body meeting of the MCH on Saturday.
HYDERABAD, FEB. 5. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) has resolved to consider providing financial assistance to children suffering from heart ailments in the city. Participating in the special budget meeting here on Saturday, MIM Corporator, Mohd.Nazeeruddin, made this suggestion, which was supported by all corporators and the MCH Commissioner, Chitra Ramachandran. Issues such as budget proposals being prepared in English alone, modernisation of slaughter houses and the need to seek funds from State Government for mega-projects were also debated at the meeting chaired by the Mayor, T. Krishna Reddy. The Deputy Mayor, Subash Chanderji wanted the budget estimates to be prepared in Hindi, Telugu and Urdu. He also objected to the MCH shouldering the financial responsibility for projects like flyovers without contributions from the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) or the State Government. The BJP floor leader, Shyam Sunder Goud argued that the process of budgeting adopted by the civic body was flawed. "The MCH is a service-oriented body and it cannot prepare budget like one interested in profits." He also wanted the civic body to act tough against other Government departments that defaulted in payment of property taxes. Narayan Swamy of the Congress wanted the corporation to take up the maintenance of burial grounds in the city. Many wanted MCH to provide furniture and facilities to school buildings instead of transferring the funds to the District Collector.
