Sir, I was happy to see The Hindu reproduce The New York Times report on the Christian fundamentalist threat to science education ("Evolution takes a back seat," Feb. 5). I see this attack on science and reason as more dangerous in the long run than fundamentalism in politics. We can fight fundamentalism only through science and reason. So when science is attacked in the name of religion, it strikes at the root of progress. If present trends continue, it will be hard to tell the difference between Osama bin Laden and George W. Bush.
