private buses

Sir, — It is interesting that private buses are left untouched whenever there is any kind of agitation. The RTC buses bear the brunt of the agitators' ire. Perhaps, the Government would do better to privatise transport save itself from colossal loss of property every time trouble breaks out.

More buses

to Sagarnagar

Sir,— Though Sagarnagar sub-urban satellite township has a population of 5,000 with Endada and Gitam Colleges in the neighbourhood, there are no adequate bus facilities to the place. A bus from Sagarnagar to Rythu bazar is essential and I request the RTC authorities to start such a service.

Similarly, there should be more street lights and a police outpost. The latter was promised by the previous Commissioner of Police. A Rythu Bazar and a primary health centre are also sorely missed in the area. I would also appeal the Railway authorities to consider running a faster train to Tirupati since the Tirumala Express is taking 17 hours in the return journey.

Means to beat

traffic jams

Sir, — Agreed that traffic problems need to be corrected. But are flyovers the only solution? Are there no alternative means of traffic regulation like introducing one-way traffic wherever possible? Streamlining traffic movement may help overcome the congestion problem. The flyovers and subways may later be used to further smoothen traffic flow.
