Tsunami victims block road

By Our Staff Reporter

KOLLAM, FEB. 6. The only road link from the mainland to the tsunami-hit Alapad panchayat has been blocked by a 400-strong group of tsunami victims, mostly women, since this morning.

Alapad panchayat is sandwiched between the sea and the lake.

The women, residents of Ward 11 in Alapad, had lost their houses in the December 26 tsunami. They are now put up at the Prabhodini library and primary health centre relief camps. Their contention is that many of those who had lost their houses have not been included in the beneficiary list published by the Government. They allege that many who are not eligible are there in the list. The women say the Government had published an initial list showing 3,321 houses as damaged.
