Joshi calls on Acharya

By Our Staff Reporter

KALAVAI (TAMIL NADU), FEB. 6. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union Minister, Murali Manohar Joshi, today visited the Sankara Mutt here and received darshan from the Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi.

The Acharya has been staying here since he was released on bail from the central prison in Vellore on January 11. He was arrested in connection with the Sankararaman murder case on November 11, 2004, and later in the Radhakrishnan case on November 23.

`No discussions'

Mr. Joshi told the media that he had only come to meet and receive darshan from the Acharya.

"There were no discussions at all," Mr. Joshi said, when asked about the significance of the visit. "Copies of the charge-sheet have to be given to the Swamiji. Only then we will know," he said, when reporters sought his comments on the progress of the case against the Acharya.

On the BJP's role in the issue, he said: "The BJP will inform the people about the whole incident, and how the Tamil Nadu Government has inflicted an injury on this great institution, the Sankara Mutt in Kanchi, and how the Swamiji was arrested and harassed."
