PATHANAMTHITA, FEB. 6. The police today arrested Mathoor Suresh, a lawyer at the Pathanamthitta bar, in connection with the seizure of counterfeit currencies of Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 denominations valued at Rs. 3,14,000 from Omalloor and Chenneerkara near here on Saturday. The police arrested four persons following the recovery of fake notes in searches conducted at their houses on Saturday. The four persons arrested earlier were: Sam alias Johnson (51), Gopalakrishnan alias Black Mony (59), Mathew Varghese (59) and Rajeshkumar (31). The Deputy Superintendent of Police, T. Gopalakrishna Pillai, said that the fourth accused had confessed to the police that he was an agent of the lawyer. The lawyer's arrest was following a thorough interrogation, he said. The police also seized currency worth Rs. 3,00,000 from his house, during a search operation. All the five were produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate here today and were remanded to judicial custody.
