This Day That Age
"Accession Day" was celebrated on February 6 by the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference throughout the State. In Jammu the biggest ever procession was taken out by the peasants, thousands of whom came from the surrounding villages, dancing with drums and shouting slogans, carrying placards voicing their demand and also the National Conference flags. Bakshi Ghulam Mohammed, the State's Prime Minister and President of the National Conference, was in front of the procession, which started from his residence and, winding its way through the various streets of the city, terminated at the Museum grounds, where a meeting was held. It is the first time since October 1947, when the State acceded to India, that the Accession Day is being observed in the State by the National Conference. Last year, on this day the Kashmir Constituent Assembly had ratified the accession.
