Mystery persists

Sir, — The Taiwan Government may be right in claiming there was no air crash on August 18, 1945, widely believed to have caused Subhash Chandra Bose's death ("Netaji's family surprised by Taiwan's denial of air crash," Feb. 5).

When the G.D. Khosla enquiry commission, constituted to probe the cause of Netaji's death, was hearing the matter, a journalist, S.N. Sinha, also investigated it and published his findings in the Ananda Bazar Patrika. He believed the crash story was false.

He followed his trail to Yakutsk, Siberia. He even got unconfirmed information that Bose was lodged in prison number 42. But he could not proceed further.

Sir, — The Taiwan Government's information to the Mukherjee Commission is not surprising.

Professor Samar Guha, who was part of the team of MPs that visited Taiwan in the early 1970s, said that villagers of Taihotu told him there was no plane crash on August 18, 1945. The question how Bose died still remains wide open.
