ISLAMABAD, FEB. 7. The Pakistani President, Pervez Musharraf, conferred today the award of Hilal-i-Pakistan (Moon of Pakistan) on the World Bank President, James D Wolfensohn in recognition of his "all-round attainments, outstanding leadership and the Bank's invaluable support to Pakistan's economic growth, poverty alleviation and good governance." The award was given at the special investiture ceremony held at the Presidential Palace. The Prime Minister, Shaukat Aziz, was present.
Interaction
Mr. Wolfensohn is here on a three-day visit for an interaction on the "economic performance" of Pakistan and how it is implementing its Poverty Reduction Strategy. Mr. Wolfensohn discussed with Gen. Musharraf the Bank's continued support for Pakistan's economic growth. An official statement said Mr. Wolfensohn appreciated the economic strides Pakistan had made in recent years in the wake of reforms and economic and fiscal stability. The Foreign Office spokesman, Masood Khan, told newsmen that Islamabad would raise the construction of Baglihar hydroelectric project and seek early appointment of a neutral expert to mediate on its differences with India on the power project dam across the Chenab River.
