SHIMOGA, FEB. 7. Slum-dwellers in the city held a demonstration here on Monday to demand improvement in the living conditions in their slums. The demonstration was held under the aegis of the Karnataka Kolageri Nivasigala Sanghatane. A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner urging the Government to concede their demands. The memorandum said that second phase slum of the Ameer Ahmed Colony in the 8th ward lacks civic amenities. The other demands included distribution of the yellow ration cards to all the families in the slums, better drinking water and street light facilities and the establishment of a primary school under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The demonstrators took out a procession from the Ameer Ahmed Circle to the Deputy Commissioner's office. It was led by the President of the taluk unit of the organisation, D. Manjunath, the Secretary, K. Bhaskar, and the vice-president, K. Manjunath.
