PONDICHERRY, FEB. 7. The Central Government, by a notification issued in January this year,delegated powers and functions, contemplated under the Electricity Act 2003, to the Lt Governor of Pondicherry, according to B.V. Selvaraj, Development Commissioner and Power Secretary. The Act would pave the way for rapid development of the power sector, besides promoting its competitiveness, Mr. Selvaraj told a seminar on Electricity Act 2003 here on Saturday. The semina0r was organised by the Technical Training Centre of the Department of Electricity of Pondicherry. He said the Act passed in Parliament in June 2003 was a landmark legislation for modernisation and liberalisation of the power sector. The training centre in the department requisitioned the services of the Central Institute of Rural Electrification, Hyderabad. The chief resource persons from the Institute are R. Sanjeevi and Dr. Sambit Basu.
