ANANTAPUR, FEB. 7. The Minister for Panchayat Raj, J.C. Diwakar Reddy, on Monday asked the beneficiaries of house-site pattas not to misuse them by mortgaging or `selling' them and instead construct houses. He distributed house-site pattas to 1,369 selected beneficiaries in Dharmavaram town in the district. Sites were given to the poor after a gap of about 20 years here. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the Government had acquired 42 acres of land on the outskirts of town and allotted house sites to the poor. Another unique feature of the programme was that a photograph of the beneficiary family was incorporated in the patta before it was endorsed.
Sites in name of women
Besides, all the house sites were being given in the name of women. The Government would also sanction houses in a phased manner based on the availability, he said and urged women to adopt family planning measures for the development of their families. The district Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, said urban areas were getting congested due to high influx of rural poor. Pattas might be given jointly to multiple beneficiaries in future asking them to construct houses together in storeyed structures. The Joint Collector, Shashibhushan Kumar, said 5,000 applications had come for the sites available on the 42 acres land. The remaining eligible would also be given house sites in the next two-three months as they had identified another 32 acres land for house sites. The Anantapur MP, A. Venkatarami Reddy, the Dharmavaram MLA, G. Jayalaxmamma, the ZP Chairperson, G. Thippeswamy, the Municipal Chairperson, K. Kanchanna, and others spoke.
