KOZHIKODE, FEB. 7. Gastroenterologists have reported a high incidence of cancer in bile duct in the State. Cancer in bile duct was among the intestinal diseases discussed in detail at the 12th annual convention of the Kerala chapter of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, hosted by the Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in Kozhikode recently. At the convention, which was inaugurated by Dr. Meenu Hariharan, Director of Medical Education, the participants spoke on a wide range of diseases affecting the intestine, liver and pancreas. Dr. Amarinder Soyin, a participant, said organ transplant would be the final answer to cirrhosis of the liver while Dr. Narendranathan underlined the need to determine the exact cause of liver cirrhosis for effectively treating the disease.
