KOCHI, FEB. 7. The former KPCC general secretary, N. Venugopal, has said that the `I' group will not hesitate to protest against the Oommen Chandy Government if it continues the "anti-people policies." Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Venugopal said that unlike the UDF constituents, the `I' group could not be intimidated with threats of being shown the door any time. The group is not engaged in political activities expecting any returns, he said.
Ready to fight
Mr. Venugopal claimed that the Karunakaran supporters had fought like a suicide squad for bringing the UDF Government to power. But once the Government was in power, they were being given a raw deal. He said they have the strength and will to retaliate, and they are ready to fight for a fair representation in the Government. Referring to the remarks made by some Congress leaders that the senior Congress leader K. Karunakaran should be taught party discipline, Mr. Venugopal said that no Congress worker had grown up enough to teach party discipline to the Leader. Mr. Karunakaran had always responded against anti-people policies. It was natural for him to react against the flaws in the tsunami relief and rehabilitation work, as well as against the ban on the State lottery that would affect lakhs of common people, he said. Mr. Venugopal said that those who were dreaming that Mr. Karunakaran could be ousted from the party were living in a fool's paradise. In Kerala politics, Mr. Karunakaran was like "Bhishma Pithamaha". He demanded that the organisational polls of the party be conducted immediately.
