HYDERABAD, FEB. 7. The APCC chief, K. Keshava Rao, has launched a broadside against a section of the media accusing it of "distorting facts, maiming the truth and spreading falsehood." Lamenting the fall in standards of journalism, Dr. Keshava Rao told reporters on Monday that as a former journalist he was pained to see some newspapers and TV channels furthering the political interests of a party. Citing the Supreme Court verdict against trial by media, he asked journalists to introspect whether the media trial of the Paritala Ravindra's murder case in the name of "fairness in reporting" was really fair after all. "Let the seniors in the profession take note of the unhealthy trend and check the practices". Drawing parallels with the Balakrishna trial, he said there was a marked difference between the coverage of the case and the murder of Paritala Ravi. "Do you think that your readers are not intelligent enough to perceive the double standard?" Referring to the campaign against the Congress Government and the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in particular, he asked whether it was proper to twist facts.
