Police officers ask Maoists to mend ways
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD,
FEB. 7.
The Andhra Pradesh Police Officers' Association has accused the Maoists of adopting dual standards -- seeking talks and exploding landmines -- and appealed to them to change their style of operation.
In a statement issued here on Monday, V. Anantaramulu, president, and three other leaders while attacking the Maoists for their strategy of targeting policemen through landmines, called for creation of ideal atmosphere to hold talks.
The leaders suggested to the extremist organisation to stop moving with arms, give up use of landmines and propagation of violence. Without implementing these steps it was not proper for the Maoists to hit out at police officers, they pointed out.
The statement recalled the landmine attack near Gurazala on six police personnel, including a CI and an SI. It said even though the police had surrounded RK and other leaders in the Nallamala forest area they had retreated in the interest of peace and order. "This showed that the police had full faith in democracy." The leaders appealed to these forces to join them in their endeavour.
