WARANGAL, FEB. 7. Naxalites blasted the office of the Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO) at Govindaraopet mandal headquarters in the wee hours of Monday. According to the watchman, Ilaiah, three naxalites descended on the place at around 3 a.m. and asked him to go out. Later, they planted bombs at the basement and set them off. In the impact of the blast a portion of the newly-constructed building collapsed. The office furniture and the staff room were totally damaged. The watchman's plea that building be spared as it was a new one, went unheard.

The explosion was so loud that those living nearby ran out of their houses in panic. They vehemently protested against the act of the naxals.

Later, people staged a rasta roko and raised slogans against the naxals. People's representatives also joined them.

The office was constructed at a cost of Rs. 29 lakhs and was inaugurated in January last year. The building houses offices of education and agricultural officers.

The Mulug ASP, Rajesh Kumar, the Pasra SI, L. Ramesh, and other police officials rushed to the spot. They said a police party had patrolled the area just before the naxalites struck.
