KOLLAM, FEB. 7. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has alleged communal bias in the allocation of projects for the rehabilitation of tsunami victims at Alapad in Kollam district. The Morcha State president, K. Surendran, told a press conference here today that his organisation was not against social service institutions of non-Hindu communities taking part in the rehabilitation programme. The Morcha registered its protest against the alleged moves to keep organisations such as the Seva Bharathi at bay. He said that right from December 26, when the tsunami hit Alapad, volunteers of the Seva Bharathi had been active in all rescue and relief works. However, of late there are attempts to sideline the Morcha in the programme to rebuild Alapad. What hurts it more is that organisations that did not play any role in the rescue and relief operations have been invited to join the rehabilitation programme, he added Mr. Surendran warned that the Morcha would launch a blockade agitation against the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, if the State Government went ahead with its hidden agenda of keeping the Seva Bharathi.
On Smart City
He said the Morcha wanted the State Government to drop the Smart City project in Kochi. The whole project smacks of corruption. As much as 1,000 acres of prime land in Kochi city will be entrusted to a real estate company for the project. The bona fides of the Dubai-based company which has been entrusted with the commissioning of Smart City are questionable. The terms and conditions of the deal are not transparent.
