Madhavan assault case: 2 surrender in court

KANCHEEPURAM, FEB. 7. Two out of the four persons for whom the Madras High Court granted anticipatory bail in the `Thirukkottiyur Madhavan assault case' on January 28, surrendered in the Judicial Magistrate Court-II here today.

The High Court also asked them to produce a bond for Rs.5,000 and two sureties for a like sum each.

R. Muthukrishnan, a retired Tamil Nadu police official now working as group security adviser for an industrial house and T.A. Ranganathan, its Public Relations Officer, appeared before the magistrate, V. Damodharan.

Talking to presspersons, Mr. Muthukrishnan said Selvam and Seshadri, working as engineers in the industrial house, would surrender in the court this week.

The High Court had directed them to appear before the special investigation team every Monday for interrogation.

Bail plea withdrawn

The bail plea moved on behalf of Appu, one of the prime accused in the Sankararaman murder case, in the District Sessions Court, Chengalpattu, was withdrawn. Counsel for Appu informed the court that they would like to withdraw the application as their client had been detained under the Goondas Act, said the Public Prosecutor, K. Arumugam.

The bail applications of other three accused — `Dil' Pandian, Sathish and Arumugam - were posted to tomorrow along with those moved on behalf of Arun, Devarajan and Silver Star alias Stalin, who have also been arrested in the murder case.

`Dil' Pandian, Sathish and Arumugam have also been detained under the Goondas Act.
