MANIPAL, FEB. 7. The president of Sanskriti Museum of Everyday Art, New Delhi, O.P. Jain, said on Sunday that the Heritage Village, which houses 26 old buildings belonging to different centuries, should developed as pilot project or pilot trend-setter, which could later be emulated in other States. Addressing presspersons after the valedictory of the national seminar-cum-workshop on "Aspects of physical culture and heritage conservation with a focus on the Hasta Shilpa Trust's Heritage Village project," sponsored by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Mr. Jain said that the Heritage Village should have an economic sustainability plan for its development. It should give importance to young people and involve the local authorities. It has the potential to become a centre for education for vernacular culture, he said. The Heritage Village has developed organically and it should continue in that manner. The opinions expressed by various experts at the seminar could be used for the development of the Village, Mr. Jain said. The Dean, School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, Jyotindra Jain, said the Heritage Village was a museum complex. It should go by the rule of museum and not get mired in traditional concepts. It should be developed as a museum. It was essential to develop the archival part of the Heritage Village, he said. Avatar Singh, scholar from New Delhi, said the memories and stories of the people, who were connected with the 26 buildings at the Heritage Village, should be recorded. Mario Cabaral e Sa from Goa said the Heritage Village should outsource its rich expertise to other regions so that many such museums could come up.
