Temperature

MADURAI, FEB.7. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 32.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.4 degree Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam today stood at 111.8 feet with an inflow of 216 cusecs and a discharge of 400 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 28.25 feet with an inflow of 122 cusecs and a discharge of 1880 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit was 1065 mcft.

Distribution of ration cards

The district administration today began distribution of white ration cards to applicants who were left out in the first phase.

According to a release, the cards will be issued at the respective Special Tahsildhar (Civil Supplies) and Taluk Supply Offices between 10 a.m. and 5.45 p.m. on all working days. On a payment of Rs.5, applicants (head of the family) or his authorised representative can collect the cards.

The green cards that were not collected in the first phase of distribution will also be issued through the same offices.

Delimitation of constituencies

The All-India Forward Bloc has condemned officials for taking up the exercise of delimitation of Assembly and Parliamentary constituencies without consulting elected representatives.

In a statement, its State general secretary and Usilampatti MLA, L. Santhanam, on Sunday complained that the officials were denying them "actual details" on the issue.

Stating that MPs, MLAs, and elected representatives of local bodies should be discussed before reaching a decision on delimitation, he urged the Election Commission to take necessary steps on the issue.

Power cut

There will be no power supply in the following areas between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow in view of maintenance works to be taken up at the Pasumalai sub-station: Palanganatham Main Road, Palanganatham, Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Pasumpon Nagar, Vasantha Nagar and Andalpuram.

Similarly, there will be no power supply in the following areas between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow, owing to maintenance works: Kovalan Nagar, Sathya Sai Nagar, Alagappa Nagar, Bharathiar Nagar, Pandian Nagar areas, Pykara Mettu Theru and Government Police Housing quarters (E.B. Colony).
