COIMBATORE, FEB. 7. Burglars broke into 15 shops at Kanuvai in the Thudialur Police Station limits on the outskirts of the city and decamped with Rs. 50,000 on Sunday night.

According to the police, a gang of burglars reportedly visited the Kanuvai area in a car during the day to survey prospective shops to be targeted at night.

They later gained entry to these shops on Thadagam Road, Pannimadai and Mettuppalayam Road by breaking open the front and back doors besides opening the tiled roofs.

A tailor shop, a plastic material shop, an STD booth, a tea stall, an iron merchant's office, a paint store and some other small establishments were burgled. The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Periyanaickenpalayam, M.A. Srinivasan, and a team of officials visited the scene of crime. The police suspect it to be a gang of at least six to ten persons. Forensic experts have lifted some evidence and special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.
