Two MMTS stations inaugurated

The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Union Minister of State for Railways, R. Velu, going round the MMTS Necklace Road station on Monday.

HYDERABAD, FEB. 7. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and the Union Minister of State for Railways, R. Velu, inaugurated the Multi Modal Transport System (MMTS) railway stations at Necklace Road and Lakdi-Ka-Pul here today. Henceforth, MMTS train services will stop at these stations.

Later, Dr. Reddy flagged off new MMTS train services to be run on the Secunderabad-Hyderabad-Lingampalli route.

The function was bereft of the customary speeches associated with such events, as both Dr. Reddy and Mr. Velu left the venue immediately to attend other engagements.

The cost of the first phase of the MMTS was estimated at Rs.199.70 crores and was jointly shared by the State Government and the Railways. As part of the project, the South Central Railway (SCR) had constructed 10 new railway stations, in addition to the existing 17 stations.

Modern amenities

The Necklace Road and the Lakdi-Ka-Pul stations were built at a cost of Rs. 4.5 crores and Rs. 4.3 crores respectively and have modern passenger amenities, including drinking water, sitting/waiting arrangements and toilets. The other features include eight booking counters at each of the stations, foot overbridges connecting the first and second platforms, high-level platforms and car/scooter parking.

Swimming pool

Mr. Velu also inaugurated a modern swimming pool at the Railway Recreation Sports Complex.

Speaking after the inauguration of the swimming pool built at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crores, he complimented SCR's sports personalities for having brought laurels to the Railways and the country in various disciplines. He also announced an award of Rs. 1 lakh for the SCR Sports Association as an acknowledgement of its endeavour.

The State Technical Education Minister, N. Narasimha Reddy, the Municipal Administration Minister, K. Ranga Rao, MP, M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, the SCR General Manager, T. Stanley Babu, and other officials were present at the inauguration of the stations.
