GUNTUR FEB.7.FEB. 7. About 100 farmers blocked the vehicular traffic for four hours on the Guntur-Macherla and Guntur-Hyderabad highways at Sattenapalli in Guntur district on Monday afternoon protesting against the non-payment of minimum support price for their produce.

The cotton farmers, who had brought their produce to the Sattenapalli Agriculture Marketyard, complained of delay in clearance of their stocks by the Cotton Corporation of India buyer at the yard and payment of Rs. 1,550 per quintal against the Government fixed MSP of Rs. 2,010.

Traffic was held up at the bus stand centre in Sattenapalli when the farmers sat across the road at 2 p.m. blocking traffic in both directions from and to Macherla and Hyderabad. The Mandal Revenue Officer after consultation with the Joint Collector told the agitating farmers that the district administration would look into their problems immediately.

The Cotton Corporation of India General Manager, Bhanoji Rao, informed the farmers through the Marketyard Secretary, Ramachandraiah, that all stocks would be purchased as per the quality guidelines and stocks cleared immediately from 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The farmers' leader, Gadde Chalamaiah, who led the agitation, said that the CCI buyers were not paying them proper price and the farmers were being made to wait for two to three days at the yard leading to decrease in moisture.
