VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 7. A rally and public meeting will be held by Central Government employees in the city on Thursday evening to press for their demand for constituting the VI Central Pay Commission. Announcing this at a press conference here on Monday, the former chairman of Central Government Employees' Coordinaiton Committee (CGECC) in the city, Ch. Gandhi, said employees of Railways, Defence, Postal, Central Excise, Customs and other Central Government offices would go in a procession from the Railway Station to the RTC Complex where a meeting would be held.
V CPC recommendation
"The V CPC has recommended constitution of VI CPC in 2004 and implementation of its recommendations from January 1, 2006. But it has not been done. We demand constituting the VI CPC immediately and pay interim relief," he said. The agitational programme is in response to a decision of the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery to organise gate-meetings, dharnas, and rallies from Monday to Thursday. The next course of action would be chalked out at a convention in New Delhi on February 17. The local agitational programmes would be coordinated by Mr. Gandhi's successor, D. Shaleel, who is the new chairperson of the CGECC in the city, and its convener, K.B.R. Prasad.
Other demands
Other demands of Central Government employees include merger of 50 per cent DA with basic pay with effect from July 1, 2002, instead of April 1, 2004; withdrawal of new contributory pension scheme and pruning of staff, surrender of posts, etc.; lifting ban on recruitment; and filling of all vacancies; restoration of 12 per cent interest on provident fund; implementation of arbitration awards on HRA arrears, pay scales of accounts and audit, night duty allowance, etc.; and ensuring regular functioning of JCM fora.
