CHANDIGARH, FEB. 8. Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan stepped up his game and ensured that he did not have to stay on court longer in his second round match against Ned Boone of Britain in the SAIL ITF junior grade `III' tennis tournament at the CLTA Complex here on Tuesday. On another day when overnight rain upset the programme and forced a two-hour delay at the start, the left-handed Jeevan, who has jumped to 42 in the ITF junior rankings, saved a setpoint in the first set tie-break to win 7-6(6), 6-2. In another match, local lad Kinshuk Sharma made a game fight after being down 2-5 but could not serve out the set at 6-5, against Vaja Uzakov of Uzbekistan. The young Kinshuk allowed the disappointment of having messed up a good chance against a quality player on the centre-court to further affect his game and thus failed to win another game in the rest of the match. The second-seeded Vivek Shokeen, who has jumped up to be No.46 in the world following the title last week, handled the challenge from lucky-loser Agnel Gladwin. Vivek will be challenged by the gutsy Agung Bagus Dewantoro of Indonesia in the quarterfinals, while Jeevan will meet Christian Hodel of Romania who ousted the seventh-seeded Ayrton Wibowo of Indonesia. In the girls' section, qualifier Parija Maloo continued with her good work, as she joined Sandhya Nagaraj and Madura Ranganathan in the second round. Parija beat Suzelle Davin of Namibia in straight sets to set up a pre-quarterfinal clash against the fifth-seeded Else Potgieter of South Africa.
