dated February 09,1955: T.C. Ministry defeated

The no-confidence motion, moved by Mr. T.S. Ramaswami (Independent) against the Praja Socialist-Ministry, was carried in the Travancore-Cochin Assembly on February 8. The voting was as follows: For the motion 60, against the motion 30, neutrals 27. Those voting in favour of the motion were Congress and Travancore Tamil Nad Congress Party members and Mr. K. Sattanatha Karalayar, an independent from the Tamil constituency of Shencottah, besides the mover of the motion. Those voting against were the Praja Socialist Party members and those of the Revolutionary Socialist Party and Kerala Socialist Party. The Communist Party members and independents belonging to this group remained neutral. One ailing Congress member, Dr. P.P. Anthony, who was not present earlier when the House commenced the debate, was conducted to his seat by another Congress member, 40 minutes before the voting. The Speaker permitted Dr. Anthony to sit in his seat while the count was taken.
