Meet on psychiatric nursing begins
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE,
FEB. 8.
Over 12 per cent of the adolescents have problems pertaining to mental health. But parents and doctors are not paying enough attention to early warning signs, said T. Dileep Kumar, president of the Indian Nursing Council, here on Monday.
"It is an issue that has to be handled as quickly and as sensitively as possible," he said at the inauguration of a three-day conference on psychiatric nursing.
Mr. Kumar said parents should keep an eye on their ward if he/she tends to cry too often, suffer from depression, has unexplained fears and talks about suicide often.More nurses are required to take care of people suffering from mental problems, he said. At present, there are only 513 nurses against the required 2,100 nurses. A census will shortly be carried out to find out the exact number of nurses available, Mr. Kumar added.
