No fresh PG entrance test, says RGUHS

By Our Special Correspondent

BANGALORE, FEB. 8. The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has decided not to annul the Post-Graduate Entrance Test conducted on Sunday.

The PG Entrance Test Committee held an emergency meeting on Tuesday and decided that there will be no fresh examinations.

On Sunday night, the RGUHS Vice-Chancellor, R. Chandrasekhara, announced the cancellation of the entrance test, hours after 9,423 candidates appeared for the test to get admitted to 1,600 PG medical and dental seats in colleges in the State.

Technical error

The Vice-Chancellor had said that the entrance test was being cancelled because of a technical error in the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheets provided to the students.

The OMR sheets provide space for students to enter their roll number, question paper code and the question paper number. The space provided for the last was sufficient for just four digits and not five. While some numbers were four-digit, others had five digits. This meant the scanner would not be able to read the numbers and the test would have to be held again.

On Monday, the Medical Education Secretary, D.V. Prasad, sent to a notice to the university seeking clarification on the reasons for cancelling the entrance test.

Expert advice

Explaining the outcome of the emergency meeting on Monday evening, the RGUHS Registrar, K.M. Srinivasa Gowda, said detailed discussions were held and technical advice was obtained from a computer expert. The expert was of the opinion that the technical problems could be solved and will not materially affect the assessment of the performance of the students in any way, Mr. Gowda said.

The snag was noticed only in one out of the four centres. It was decided there is no need to hold the entrance test again.
