SALEM, FEB. 8. In a swift action, the Salem City Police recovered 125 sovereigns of gold jewellery that were stolen from a city jewellery shop here within eight hours of registering the complaint. An employee of the shop was arrested in this connection. According to the Police Commissioner, Abashkumar, a city jewellery shop situated on the Big Bazar Street here closed its day's transactions on February 5 (Saturday), without verifying the stock. On Monday, when the shop was opened for usual business, the jewellery were found missing. The shop owner, Anand, lodged a complaint with the City Police immediately. Police investigation led to one Prakash (21) of Ponnammapet, who worked in the shop. Further interrogation led to the recovery of the jewels valued at Rs. 6 lakhs.
