Nobility in politics

Sir, — This has reference to the President's call for nobility in politics (Feb. 3). Nobility in politics is a contradiction in terms. The pursuit and capture of power is central to all political activity. In this, no holds are barred. No writer or philosopher has ever written or spoken in praise of politics.

The British national anthem even contains the words, "Confound their politics and frustrate their knavish tricks" (this tendentious strophe is not sung now-a-days) with reference to the enemy countries. Nobility in politics is as contradictory as calling woman the weaker sex.

Kurnool, A.P.
