BJP protests against dismissal of Parrikar Ministry

By Our Special Correspondent

The BJP workers stage a demonstration in Shimoga on Tuesday urging the President to dismiss the Congress Government in Goa.

SHIMOGA, FEB. 8. The Bharatiya Janata Party members staged a demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the dismissal of the Parrikar Government in Goa and also against swearing in of the Congress Government in an "undemocratic" way.

The party workers demanded the dismissal of the Goa Governor, S.C. Jamir, as he resorted to a "conspiracy" to dismiss the democratically elected BJP Government.

They alleged that dignity of the Governor's post has been lowered by Mr. Jamir by the partisan manner in which he acted to facilitate the installation of the Congress Government.

The demonstrators submitted a memorandum addressed to the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, seeking the recall of the Governor.

D.H. Shankaramurthy, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, led the demonstration. K.S. Eshwarappa, MLA from Shimoga; M.B. Bhanu Prakash, BJP district unit president; and S.N. Channabasappa, party's city unit president, were present.

Our Belgam Staff Correspondent reports:

The Belgaum city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office as part of the party's nationwide protest against the dismissal of its party government in Goa, on Tuesday.

The dharna was led by the party's city unit president, Sanjay Belgaumkar; the general secretary, Babulal Rajpurohit; the vice-president, Raghavendra Pujar, and the youth leader, Sanjeev Hanamsagar.

In a memorandum addressed to the President, the party has demanded dismissal of the Congress Government and reinstatement of the Parrikar Ministry. Otherwise, the party threatened to launch an agitation.
