Thanjavur
By Our Staff Reporter
THANJAVUR, FEB.8. Rama Sundaram, former professor, Tamil University, has called for efforts to improve Tamil research in foreign countries since Tamil had been declared as a classical language. Speaking at the inauguration of University Grants Commission-sponsored refresher course on `Tamil studies abroad' at Tamil University here today, he deplored that Tamil research was coming down in foreign countries nowadays. S. Rajaram, Department of International Tamil studies, said that Tamil research is confined to literature only in many universities. Researchers should understand the entire gamut of `Thamizhiyal.' S. Prema, member of search committee for Vice-Chancellor, presided. A. Karthikeyan, convenor of the conference, welcomed the gathering. S. Udhaya Suriyan proposed a vote of thanks.
