Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, FEB. 8. The Education Minister, K. Lakshminarayanan, today distributed prizes and cash awards to each of the 11 cadets of the Pondicherry National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group Headquarters on their return from New Delhi after participating in the Republic Day camp. Mr. Lakshminarayanan, who is suffering from a throat infection, could not address the cadets. Col. N. Venugopal, the NCC Group Commander, welcomed the gathering. The principal of the Pondicherry Government Tagore Arts College, Babu Rao, said there was a need for an inbuilt facility for cadets by award of certificates that would enable them to go in for jobs. He also wanted the number of training camps to be reduced so that the cadets could maintain a balance between curricular and extra-curricular activities. The Administrative Officer of the NCC Group Headquarters, Lt. Col. Renushe, and the Director of Technical Education, Kaliaperumal, were present.
