By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, FEB. 8. The Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader, M. Ramadass, has requested the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad, to separately earmark funds for the railway sector in Pondicherry in the forthcoming railway budget.

In his 13-point charter of suggestions to the Railway Minister, Mr. Ramadass said the Villupuram-Pondicherry broad gauge line be electrified without delay and a Super Fast train to link Pondicherry with New Delhi introduced.

Mr. Ramadass, who distributed a copy of his demands to mediapersons yesterday, wanted enhanced facilities for entrepreneurs to book their goods in bulk in the local railway station as shortage of wagons was posing a problem to them.

Mr. Ramadass demanded a train service from Pondicherry to Mahe, expeditious conversion of the lines under broad gauge system between Nagore and Karaikal and extension of Sarkar Express now plying between Kakinada and Chennai to Pondicherry to benefit the residents of Yanam region.

He appealed to expedite construction of railway overbridges at Mudaliarpet, Olandaikeerapalayam and Arumbathapuram between Pondicherry and Villupuram route.
