Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, FEB. 8. More than 1,000 residents of Dubrayapet, a coastal village in the Uppalam Assembly constituency, today marched to the Assembly seeking payment of the tsunami cash assistance. They met the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, and handed over petitions asking the Government to ensure that the cash assistance of Rs. 10,000 was paid to all the affected families without discrimination. They said the money had been distributed without proper assessment and those who were really affected had been left out.
`No discrimination'
Mr. Rangasamy said there had been no discrimination in the disbursement of relief. The administration was going by the assessment and identification of affected families made by the Revenue Department. If there had been any lapse, the administration would take action to rectify the situation. The villagers also made a representation to the Education and Revenue Minister.
