CAIRO, FEB. 8. A militant group in Iraq claimed in an Internet statement today that it had executed a woman Italian journalist for spying on ``holy fighters.'' However, the statement was signed by a different group than the one that had earlier claimed to have kidnapped Giuliana Sgrena. There was no way to verify the authenticity of either statement, both of which were posted on a Web site used as a clearing house for militants. The Jihad Organisation claimed responsibility for Friday's kidnapping of Ms. Sgrena (56), but today's statement was signed by the Mujahedeen Brigade. It said the killing was a message to the U.S. Government ``that this would be the destiny of agents and spies.'' AP
