CHITRADURGA, FEB. 8. An employee of the Department of Public Instruction has been kept under suspension for allegedly fabricating a few records, which led to the release of government grants to a private unaided school. According to sources, N.S. Gopalakrishna, a second division assistant in the office of the Deputy Director of Public Instruction, was placed under suspension after a preliminary enquiry by the director of Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board, T.M. Kumar. A fraud was brought to light by the Lokayukta police, who arrested H. Manjunath, former Block Education Officer of Chitradurga. Mr. Manjunath is presently holding the charge of nodal officer of the mid-day meal scheme. It is alleged that Mr. Manjunath in connivance with Mr. Gopalakrishna fabricated the records to sanction grants to a private school. During the enquiry, Mr. Kumar had directed the official to submit the file relating to the fraud. Mr. Gopalakrishna, however, failed to submit the original records and brought only the photocopy of the document. Mr. Kumar felt that non-furnishing of records was a systematic plan to mislead the enquiry. Mr. Gopalakirshna has been placed under suspension pending enquiry. Mr. Manjunath was arrested in this regard on Friday and has been sent to judicial custody. He has also been kept under suspension.
