DAVANGERE, FEB. 8. Contrary to a press release from the Deputy Commissioner's office a days ago that there were no restrictions to hold the zilla panchayat, taluk panchayat, and Karnataka Development Programme review meetings by the Election Commission, the Davangere Zilla Panchayat issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the panchayat authorities had been directed to postpone the meetings by the Election Commission. The chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat, Narayanaswamy, said that the Election Commission had also directed the zilla panchayat to conduct the meetings only after the elections.
Release of funds
The Election Commission had also stated that the zilla panchayat could release funds to works that have already begun, as the amount was in the joint account of the chief executive officer and the president of the panchayat, Mr. Narayanaswamy said in the release.
