Suguna Group to focus on pumps exports

COIMBATORE, FEB. 8. The Coimbatore-based Suguna Group of Industries is looking at increasing its pump exports to 10 per cent of its total turnover in a couple of years.

V. Lakshminarayanasamy, Managing Director, Suguna Group, told The Hindu here on Tuesday that though it was already exporting motors to the European countries, exports of pumps were minimal now. Pumps were one of the main products manufactured by the company and increase in its exports would enable it have a global presence. And the focus would be on Middle-East, African and European countries.

It had recently launched three-inch submersible pumps and stainless steel six-inch pumps. "These could be the main products to be exported apart from centrifugal pumps," he said.

The group was involved in the manufacture of pumps and motors, castings and textiles. "Motors and machined components are already being exported and pumps will be the next item of focus."

This financial year, the group had entered into manufacture of complete equipment for two-wheeler and four-wheeler service stations (such as air compressors and high pressure water pumps).

"The company targets totally 50 installations of this range of equipment during 2005-06 across the country."

With an increase in vehicle population and the setting up of service stations in rural areas also, "we see a huge potential for the equipment," he added.

With regard to textiles, it had recently added weaving machinery to its existing spinning capacities. "By the end of this fiscal, we would have totally 10 weaving machinery, and by the end of next financial year another 10."
