CUDDAPAH, FEB. 8. An alternative policy initiative was needed to safeguard the interests of employees, workers and people, according to the CITU district vice-president, B. Narayana. In his inaugural address at the CITU `Nagara Sadassu' here on Tuesday, he said the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, and the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, derided the World Bank policies prior to elections, but implementing them now. A nationwide debate on alternative policy initiative and agitations to achieve it were imperative, he said. The free power policy was diluted and execution of irrigation projects lacked transparency, Mr. Narayana alleged. He flayed the UPA decision to hike the foreign direct investment in vital sectors and an Ordinance amending the Patent Act would make medicines expensive and unaffordable by common people. The CITU district committee member, P. Mallikarjuna Raju, presided.
