Call to ensure success of SSLC soft examination

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 8. The Education Minister, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, has urged the Opposition to cooperate with the Government in ensuring smooth conduct of the soft examination for IT practicals of SSLC students.

Replying to a submission by K.C. Joseph (Congress) in the Assembly today, the Education Minister said the Government would not go back on the decision to conduct the examination at this point.

It would, however, try to evolve a consensus on the issue and would convene a meeting of teachers' organisation representatives to see how best the situation could be redeemed, he said.

Mr. Basheer said the leadership Kerala State Teachers' Association (KSTA) had initially fully endorsed the Government decision to hold the examination using Microsoft software, but had later backtracked on its word. The Government is ready to use Linux from the coming year. But it is too late to attempt anything of the kind at this point of time.
