KOZHIKODE, FEB. 8. With the results of more than 52 items declared in the Higher Secondary Schools Youth Festival being organised here, Kozhikode district is in the lead bagging 308 points.

Kannur district is placed second with 265 points, Ernakulam with 262 points is in the third position and Thrissur is fourth with 230 points.

The youth festival venues perceptibly livened up on the third day of the festival.

At most of the venues the audience turn out was much more than on the first two days.

At the main venue at the Model GHSS where the mimicry contest was held in the morning, the crowd swelled by mid-day with the staging of folk dances, `thiruvathirakkali' and group dance.

The Town Hall, where drama competitions were staged, was packed to capacity. Seventeen plays were staged as part of the contest. A mixed selection of themes was evident in the staging of the plays. Among the plays staged were `Papathara', `Iruttinteatmave', `Agninakshatram' and `Ottarathriyile kamukimar.'

Great pains were taken by the participants in providing apt stage settings. Those coming from far away districts had carted them all the way. The contests which started late at some of the venues managed to keep to the schedule as the day progressed.

Even the venue at the Teacher Training College, where the poetry recitation contest was conducted, there was a sizable crowd of poetry lovers.

Performances in Keralanadanam, margamkali and chakkiarkooth at the Nalanada auditorium were great crowd pullers.

Valedictory session

The Health Minister, K.K. Ramachandran, will inaugurate the valedictory session on February 9 at the main venue at the Model Government HSS, and present the trophies to winners. The Mayor, Thottathil Raveendran, will preside. The district panchayat president, M.K. Nalini, T.K. Hamza, MP, the Public Education Director, Sajan Peter, among others will participate in the deliberations.
